What Will Be Liverpool’s Dream Defensive Lineup For Klopp’s First Full Season At Anfield?

The fans are full of hope and renewed expectations after the progress made under Jurgen Klopp in just his first eight months and the biggest achievement of Klopp’s tenure has been that he has made turned the doubters into believers. Tactics, style of play aside, Klopp has brought the supporters together and galvanized the club like never before.

With the attention on transfers, the most important area to improve not in number but in quality is the defense. Liverpool have conceded too many goals and along with the keeper, many goals have been conceded because of errors by the defenders. The goalkeeping issue is somewhat solved after the arrival of Loris Karius and the German has the potential to be at a world class level for a long period of time.

Along with attacking, the Fullbacks have a responsibility to track back which is the prime job on the flanks and Moreno struggles in that. Moreno’s positioning is questionable at times and the reds have suffered many goals from his side. He is young and can improve, but it has been two seasons that the Spaniard has not improved his defending to the level that Klopp needs his fullback to be. Now let’s take a dream back four for the next season that can be solid at the centre and strong on the wings to complement the attack :

Right back: Nathaniel Clyne

He can be called as Mr. Consistent for the Reds and has played the most number of matched for Liverpool last season. Clyne has been one of the best players last campaign and can be said as the best bit of business that Rodgers did in his term. Clyne has his best years yet to come and the reds are secured in the right back area for the next 5-6 years.

Centre back: Joel Matip

Matip was in the Bundesliga team of the season and is one of the best defenders that was on show in the German league. Matip will bring stability to the back and his aerial prowess will be important for the season ahead. He scores in important games and the reds haven’t scored much from the corners last season, so Matip can be a real utility player for the reds.

Centre back: Dejan Lovren

Lovren has proved that the Reds weren’t wrong to pay £20 for the Croatian and has proved his worth under Klopp. Lovren scored the most important goal this season too against Dortmund in a thrilling 4-3 victory at Anfield. Lovren was just lacking confidence and since the German has arrived, Lovren has played with a purpose and has hardly put a foot wrong.

Left back: Jonas Hector

The reds need an upgrade to Alberto Moreno and Germany’s left back for the Euros, Jonas Hector has been said to be the prime target for Liverpool. It is being reported

that a fee has been agreed with FC Koln for Hector and personal terms are remaining to be agreed. Hector will definitely be an upgrade to the Spaniard and his style of play will remind the supporters of a certain Steve Finnan. He is a proper full back who doesn’t overdo his attacking runs but does whenever it is needed. He can become an important player for the reds and at just 25 years of age, Hector under Klopp will yield great results for the reds.
