The transfer window officially open on July 1st, but big clubs are too ‘impatient’ to wait until then to buy their primary targets. Many clubs have already announced signings even before June. Now, the Euro 2016 has started and you can’t expect much transfer movement, but that won’t stop us from talking about transfer rumors and possibilities.
Clubs have already identified their targets and also they have recognized the areas in their squad which needs improvisation. One such area where Liverpool needs improvisation is the central midfield. If you look at Liverpool’s squad, you can see some ‘big name’ in the Central Midfield like Emre Can, James Milner, Jordan Henderson, Joe Allen and Lucas Leiva. Then they have youngsters like Cameron Brannagan and Kevin Stewart. With all these names in the side, some of you might be wondering why do Liverpool need another Central Midfielder.
The only name in this list who has established himself in Liverpool’s starting Line-Up is Emre Can. James Milner and Jordan Henderson are good Central Midfielders, but injuries and inconsistent performances have refused them from establishing themselves in the starting eleven. Jordan Henderson’s season was ruined by a heel injury and he was not able to recover from it. James Milner, who had a very slow start to his Liverpool career eventually hit his top form, but we was not always able to put up consistent performances. He was not very effective in some games. Liverpool’s Europa League final against Sevilla is one example for this. Lucas Leiva and Joe Allen are not good enough to start ahead of Milner or Henderson.
With that being said, it might be right to agree that Liverpool need a new Central Midfielder to partner with Emre Can. But who? Let’s look at three Central Midfielders who Liverpool could buy to partner with Emre Can:
1. Piotr Zielinski:
Now, this might not be a big money signing, but it could be a bargain deal for Liverpool. You could also argue that Zielinski is not good enough to be a Liverpool starter ahead of Henderson or Milner. All that may be true, but Zielinski is a talented and upcoming talent and after a year with Liverpool he might turn into ‘starting eleven’ quality. Zielinski is heavily linked with Liverpool and many reports say that a deal is already in place between the player and the club. Zielinski can be compared to Philippe Coutinho at Inter Milan before he signed for Liverpool. The Polish Central Midfielder is a deep lying playmaker and is what Liverpool lacked last season. Liverpool failed to make a connection between the defense and the attack. Piotr Zielinski might be the solution for Liverpool.
2. Mahmoud Dahoud:
Another Central Midfielder who is heavily linked with Liverpool. The 20 year old was a key player for Borussia Monchengladbach this season. He partnered with new Arsenal signing, Granit Xhaka, and had an amazing season. Borussia Monchengladbach have already sold two of their central key midfielders, Granit Xhaka and Havard Nordtveit, and they might not be willing to sell another key Central Midfielder. But if Liverpool really want him, a good offer might be enough to bring Dahoud to Anfield. Dahoud is also a deep lying playmaker and at the same time solid defensively. Dahoud might be the perfect partner for Emre Can at Liverpool and they two can be Liverpool’s Central Midfielders for many years to come.
3. Ignacio Camacho:
Camacho is not a player like the other two mention in the list. Ignacio Camacho is more of a defensive midfielder. The Malaga Midfielder is know for his tackling and aerial duels. Camacho can be the perfect replacement for Lucas Leiva who is not able to hit is old form. If Camacho is brought to Liverpool, Emre Can can be given more freedom to go forward and show off his dribbling skills. Camacho will be available for around 10 Million and it be a great buy for Liverpool.
Most Liverpool journalists have reported Liverpool’s interest in Piotr Zielinski and Mahmoud Dahoud. They say that a deal was in place for Piotr Zielinski, but Klopp sees Dahoud as his primary target. So, Liverpool are trying to force Borussia Monchengladbach to sell Dahoud. If they fail to pursue him, Liverpool will go for Zielinski. At the moment, there is no much news on Ignacio Camacho to Liverpool, but the Spaniard was linked to Liverpool in January.
