Should Liverpool Go For This €34m Rated Rising Star From Bundesliga?

According to the Bild, Liverpool are interested in sealing a €34m deal for the 20-year-old Schalke star Max Meyer. The Reds have already closed a deal and have brought on board Georginio Wijnaldum from Newcastle United.

A look at Max Meyer

The 20-year-old German international started his career with Schalke in the 2012-13 season and in the next three seasons has made quite a name for himself. He has made 95 appearances for the club and also has an international cap to his name. In these appearances, he hit the back of the net 6 times and also had three assists to his name. The youngster also has a good passing accuracy and an eye to create chances from situations where an attack seems less likely. In the current Schalke line-up, Meyer features in the attacking midfield and is also known to play well at the sides.

Should Liverpool go for him?

Liverpool have recently announced the arrival of Georginio Wijnaldum from Newcastle United and the purpose to add him in the team is clearly to add some attacking flair in the midfield. Considering this deal in place already, an approach for Max Meyer has raised a lot of questions and there have been differing opinions to the prospect of this deal happening. On one hand the approach of having a quality attacking midfielder in the side who can play from either side looks really appealing, there is always a chance that this deal, if it happens, might not be the best as far as the amount of money involved and the need of a player for a different role is considered. The priority for the Reds right now is to sign a quality left back with Brad Smith also looking on his way out to Bournemouth.

Is this transfer talk a rumor?

The Schalke boss Christian Heidel has declared this as a rumor and mentioned to the media that no such transfer talks are in place at the moment. This is what he had to say

, “Max is a really good player, but a move to Liverpool is nonsense. I know Klopp a bit, and I have spoken with him recently and I think he would have been determined to speak to me then, if interest had been there. Aside from that, Max is not on our sales list.”
