The big transfer rumor that is surrounding the Liverpool camp is that of the Dutch left-back Jetro Willems. The Reds have been heavily linked with him and it has been all over the news. The rumors became stronger when the player congratulated his fellow countryman Georginio Wijnaldum on his move to Anfield and also mentioned that they shall see each other soon. Willems is the latest left-back to be linked with a move to Merseyside following a series of transfer speculations with a number of players. With the injury to Joe Gomez, the departure of Brad Smith and question marks over the future of Jon Flanagan, it is imperative for Klopp to get a full back on board. Here we take a look at Jetro Willems as a possible option.
Who is Jetro Willems-
The 22 year old Dutch full back plays for PSV Eindhoven and is known for his pace and his crossing abilities. Willems began his career at Sparta Rotterdam when he was just 16 and till now, he has already made 175 appearances. In 2011, he moved to PSV and became a regular full back from his very first season. Manchester United once approached PSV for Willems when they were in need of a left-back. The youngster is also deadly with crosses and had 14 assists in the 2014 season with PSV. He currently has one year left on his contract and this makes him a hot target for clubs around Europe.
A fit at Anfield
His gameplay is one that looks similar to what Moreno has but his defensive abilities are considered better than what Moreno’s are. However, the fact that Willems plays for a lesser competitive league might give him an upper-hand over Moreno in his defensive prowess, but one cannot deny the fact that he is an asset to have in the team. Willems loves going forward and if he keeps his back-tracking and man to man marking in check, his attacking abilities can be put to good value under Jurgen Klopp. Also, he can be used in the left midfield as an alternative if Klopp decides to favor the 4-3-3 for this season. The Dutch full back, however, did not have a good last season as he was struggling with injuries and managed to have only 11 appearances. Considering the current situation that Liverpool are in, Jurgen Klopp will have to make a choice sooner or later on a full back and answer the defensive woes of his side.
