Forget It Klopp – Why This Real Madrid Star Isn’t The Answer For Liverpool’s Problems

Right at this very moment, Real Madrid star James Rodriguez is the hottest property in the transfer window. The player, previously, was a serious target for Manchester United, but the Devils played their trade on Paul Pogba and ended their pursuit for the Columbian. It is now very clear that the 25-year-old isn’t the player Zidane wants in his team and the Frenchman is correct on his part as well.

Real Madrid is a squad full of stellar names and the players like Ronaldo, Bale, Kroos and Modric are simply irreplaceable, hence, there is no first team spot for available for the player. The 25-year-old was excluded from the starting line-up in the European Super Cup win over Sevilla and last week’s 3-0 La Liga victory at Real Sociedad, and the manager himself has stated that he do not really have a future at the club.

“I always try to make my players feel important and James is no different than the rest.

“Anything could happen between now and August 31 [when the transfer window closes],” Zidane added.

“I’m sure no one else is going to arrive but players could leave. I have a squad now and I’m happy with it and some players are going to return [from injury].”

This clearly indicated that the player is on his way out and if the reports are to believe, then many clubs are chasing to sign him up, but Real won’t let him go on cheap. ESPN has reported that Juventus are in the race, while Chelsea too are pushing themselves forward.

And recently, according to the reports from the Mirror, Liverpool have stepped on to chase the player. It is claimed Madrid want £51million for the player and the European champions don’t believe Liverpool are capable of meeting their asking price. But besides all that big money move, do Liverpool really need James Rodriguez?

Analysing what Liverpool have fared in this transfer window, practically speaking; they do not need another attacker. The German manager has brought seven new players into the squad, yet the squad isn’t a finished article. They do possess a great attacking threat as they have the likes of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, and Philippe Coutinho, but they do not really have a senior figure in the backline.

The manager needs to work on defence rather than bringing more attacking players. Well, this is no secret that Liverpool, right at this very moment, have a crowded midfield and bringing a player like James, who will demand a regular first team football, will do no good. If Liverpool are to bring an attacker, then perhaps a natural centre-forward might do the trick.

We certainly agree with what Jamie Carragher said about Liverpool not having a first choice striker and Klopp can not possibly use James for that, it is like Firmino all over again. James does have his pros, but there are more cons here in this case. His arrival at the Anfield means one of the players will have to sacrifice the spot and looking at the current line-up, Firmino might be that personnel.

James surely is a pure attacking threat, but he might struggle to fit in Klopp’s techniques. Besides all of this, his salary would be a major issue for the club. The player is currently earning £120,000 a week at the Bernabeu and this is very much obvious that he won’t bargain the amount at Liverpool. Only James Milner and Daniel Sturridge are earning the same figure and there is a possibility that the Columbian might demand more.

Well, we solely believe that James and Liverpool are just not made for each other. James will surely want a club with a European status, and Liverpool cannot offer him the same, at least for the 2016-17 season. Hence, his pursuit will be nothing more than a waste of time.
