Who Is This Leeds Defender That Liverpool Are Trying To Sign – Everything You Need To Know

Liverpool’s requirement for a quality left-back so far has not worked and with James Milner being the only concrete option, there could be another player that the Reds could sign.

Leeds United’s Charlie Taylor is again being linked with a move away from the Championship side and even though Leeds have rejected a transfer request, the 22-year-old could still force his way out of the club, such as Sam Byram did.

Taylor has only one year left on his contract and he has refused to sign a contract extension as well. Speculation grows about his future and a bid of £7 million could see him join the Premier League side.

Taylor is a former England U19 international but there is a lot more than that about him.

A star in the making for England

Taylor was born in York and played for the junior Leeds sides before signing with them in 2010. When he was 17 years of age, Taylor got the chance to play for the senior side as he was a substitute in a League Cup game against Bradford City in 2011. He was then loaned out to various clubs such as Bradford, Fleetwood Town, York City and Inverness while he honed his skills.

The English defender was brought back to Leeds in 2014 and was exceptional in that season and was even in the running to win the Young Player of the Year Award. In the next season, Taylor won the club’s Fans Player of the Year Award but things have turned sour with him and the owner, Massimo Cellino, and a solution for the impasse has to be found.

Taylor might not be a player who has a lot of flair but he certainly can do a good job with his physique and defensive ability already being touted as Premier League quality. The youngster can also play as a left midfielder or winger if needed, but he is most comfortable as a defender.

The defender also has a decent return of assists, though his passing and shot accuracy are a little down. He also is not the quickest defender in the world but he is someone who can do a really good job and many had tipped him to move to the Premier League last season itself but unsurprisingly he stayed at Leeds thanks to the owner.

Liverpool do need someone who can do a good job in defence and the earlier they can bring in someone who can play in that position without the drama that the side have had to deal with in years, the better it would be.

Charlie Taylor could be a smart buy from Jurgen Klopp but then many would also question why the German manager had let go of Brad Smith, who could have done a decent job in place of Alberto Moreno.

The England defender could be one of those players who leave on the last day of the window and it will be interesting to see just which team he does sign for.
