Unlike many hoped, there still isn’t any sign of a new dawn at the Anfield. Just like last season, the Merseysiders have been a victim of inconsistency this season as well. Yes, we admit that they have played just three Premier League games and started their campaign on a high note, but they failed to replicate the same against a lowly Burnley side and next, played a draw against the Lilly Whites, Tottenham Hotspur.
Besides all of that, Liverpool do have two more days to act regarding transfers, because to be honest, they do need reinforcements in several areas of the field. The manager will also have to look out for the existing players, and Klopp hasn’t wasted much time regarding the same. Many youngsters have already left the club, but the future of one man is hanging in the middle of nowhere.
Lazar Markovic, who joined the Reds back in the summer of 2014, has been a victim of inconsistency. Arrived from the Portuguese side Benfica with a lot of expectations, Markovic failed to deliver the promises in his very first season with the club. The Serbian international failed to match the tenacity of the Premier League and eventually lost his place in the first team and only managed 19 appearances in his very first season.
He was then sent out on loan to Fenerbahce in the following season to get the first team opportunity, but his season was cut short in February 2016 due to a hamstring injury, hence, the Serbian only managed 20 appearances for the Turkish side. The 2-year-old has returned, but it is now believed that he will be sent out on loan yet again.
Soon after he finished his loan spell and returned to Anfield, the manager was asked about the role of the Serbian in the team and the German clearly stated that he does have a role for the player in his script, but till date, the Serbian hasn’t featured for the manager, in any of the competitive games. Now, the Sun has reported that the player is currently being monitored by the Italian side AC Milan and they are ready to bring him to San Siro on loan.
Well, that is the best possible option for both the player and the club. Liverpool right at this very moment is congested with some stellar names and the players like Philippe Coutinho and Sadio Mane are practically way ahead of the Serbian (performance wise), hence, Markovic would be nothing more than a third or fourth choice for the team.
Furthermore, he still hasn’t managed to cope with the pressure of the Premier League and we certainly believe that the Anfield side must allow him to leave on a permanent basis. There is no doubt that the player is a gem, but not every player is meant for the Premier League (remember Di Maria?).
The 22-year-old has missed the first team action since the 2014/15 season and to be fairly honest, he never will be Klopp’s first choice as both Mane and Coutinho are hitting a top form. Besides all of that, with the absence of European football, the squad rotation would be minimum, hence the player will only be preferred in the league cup games, where the manager usually uses his second team so there is no point in staying at the Anfield, and this is where I rest my case.
