Performance Analysis: How Good Was This Liverpool Attacker Against Leicester City

Liverpool produced one of their best displays of the season to secure a 4-1 win over the champions Leicester City on Saturday. After an inconsistent start to the campaign, this result was especially the need of the hour as Liverpool opened the gates to their new main stand.

Adam Lallana has been playing a prominent role under Jurgen Klopp this season, however, there has always been a feeling that the former Southampton man could offer a lot more to the club given his reputation in the English League. There were flashes of the same in the victory over Leicester.

Lallana has now scored two goals and created one in the four appearances. His form has been a major reason behind summer signing Wijnaldum’s inconsistent performances going unnoticed of late. Against Leicester, Lallana was deployed as a central midfielder to play alongside Henderson and Wijnaldum.

The debate about this England international’s best position will continue to rage on, but his impressive performance against Leicester may go a long way into providing a conclusion.

Sadio Mane playing on the right wing provides Lallana with a great combination. Mane was once again at his brilliant best, and he scored a goal and had an assist in yet another fine performance. Along with the likes of Mane, Roberto Firmino, and Philippe Coutinho, Lallana has been one of the best players for the club.

Operating alongside Henderson and Wijnaldum, one would expect Lallana to be almost on par with these two players in terms of statistics. Even though it is still a sample of just four games, Lallana has managed to take almost twice the number of shots (1.5 vs 2) than Wijnaldum and more than four times the number of dribbles (0.5 vs 4), while managing to stay almost on par in terms of defensive statistics.

One of the greatest assets of Lallana this season has been his consistency. The midfielder has a 100% shot accuracy which is astonishing given that he is making around 2.8 shots per game. Lallana had two efforts on goal against Leicester with one of them finding the back of the net. The 28-year-old was as good as anything in the fixture. Even his passing was something to be very proud be as he managed the passing accuracy of 85.2%. The lack of any key pass throughout the 90 minutes was a backdrop, but that never really came in his way. Of any forward based players on the pitch, Lallana had the most touches (83) on the ball as his impact was felt across the pitch.
