Liverpool won 1-2 away from home at Stamford Bridge in a game that saw Chelsea lose for the first time in the Premier League this season. Goals from Dejan Lovren and Jordan Henderson gave the Reds the win.
Both the Liverpool goals came in the first half itself. Diego Costa continued his dominant goalscoring form, but his second-half goal wasn’t enough to get Chelsea a win.
Liverpool dominated the first half, but it was also the case of Chelsea not playing up to the mark. The Blues tightened the screws in the second half, and got a goal as a result, but couldn’t do enough to get a point or three from the game. It was a mature victory for Liverpool, something that will encourage Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool also proved that they could grind out results at the end. They were also sharper, and more inventive than Chelsea.
Despite Liverpool enduring their customary defensive stuttering at the end, it was an impressive performance at the back from the defenders, especially Joel Matip whose post game stats make for great reading.
Liverpool have had the toughest start to the season and ten points from the first five games, including Arsenal, Tottenham, Spurs and Chelsea obviously is a huge positive. Liverpool fans definitely agreed with the same.
However, Liverpool somehow managed to lose to Burnley, which perplexed a lot of their fans.
Liverpool will be highly encouraged by the performance. Conte has suffered his first defeat in the Premier League and will have to work on changes as it seems like the draw against Swansea has tilted the momentum a little away from the side.
