Liverpool Could Have Won Every Game Including The Manchester United Clash Says Former Reds Star Ray Houghton

Liverpool are currently tied on top of the Premier League table. The Reds are third on goal difference and they could have stayed on top of the table had they scored more goals against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.

The Reds have been excellent so far this season, except for a few blips in the league campaign. The loss against Burnley being the biggest shock so far and the drab 0-0 draw against Manchester United is still fresh in the mind of others.

The Merseyside club has been able to shred most teams with their attack and that has been a treat to watch. In fact, many believe that the Reds should be unbeaten in the league and should not have dropped points at all.

Former Liverpool player Ray Houghton is one of those who believes that the Reds were far better than any of the other clubs they faced so far this season. The 54-year-old was on Sky Sports

“So far they could have won every game they’ve played. [Against] Burnley, they had 80 per cent possession, but didn’t convert it into chances or goals. They went to Spurs, drew there and they were by far the better team.

“Manchester United, probably the best chances, Coutinho’s shot was well saved by De Gea. Emre Can’s effort with his left foot where the ‘keeper got down brilliantly to make the save.

“They are the only games they’ve not won and I thought they’d been the better side in those matches as well.”

A great weekend for the Reds

Liverpool were the only team from the top three to have won their game in the Premier League the past week. The Reds squeaked past West Brom 2-1 while the likes of Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester City all drew, thus losing important points.

The shock result has to be the 1-1 draw that City had against Southampton. Pep Guardiola’s side has been struggling recently and this draw would not have helped the Spaniard. Arsenal also were held to a shock draw by Middlesbrough and that helped Liverpool to draw level with the other two sides.

The Reds have scored 20 goals in 10 games so far in the league and it could have been a lot more against the Baggies had it not been for some stoic defending.

Liverpool still have some work to do as they conceded yet again. The Reds have only have one clean sheet all season in the league but if they continue scoring more goals than conceding, this could be another fantastic season to remember for the side.

They next face Tottenham in the EFL Cup midweek before traveling to Crystal Palace and goals are a guarantee in both games, at least Liverpool would be intent on scoring.
