Manchester United Legend Says This Is The Reason Why Liverpool Might Not Win The Title This Season

Liverpool are close to the top of the Premier League and that has been achieved through some amazing displays under Jurgen Klopp. There, however, is concern about the deployment of the strikers in the side with Roberto Firmino playing the attacking role for the Reds this season.

And Ryan Giggs, the former Manchester United winger, has stated that the lack of a regular goalscorer for Liverpool could greatly harm their chances of winning the Premier League title.

Giggs is one of the Premier League legends and has won 13 Premier League titles with the Red Devils. Apart from that, the Welsh winger has won numerous other titles with the club but he believes the Reds do need a 20 goal a season striker. But he claimed that Daniel Sturridge and Sadio Mane could get the goals for the Merseyside club.

As quoted by the Telegraph, Giggs stated:

“What they lack is a goalscorer who might get them 20 goals in a season and while Sadio Mane or Daniel Sturridge might prove me wrong, you do need one of those in a title-winning team.

“All the recent champions have had one: Jamie Vardy, Diego Costa, Yaya Toure (who scored 20 goals in 2013-2014, although Sergio Aguero is Manchester City’s key striker), Robin Van Persie. At the other end I do not think they have a goalkeeper who is among the top players in that position in the league, although that could change over time.”

A first ever Premier League title for the Reds?

Liverpool have never won the Premier League title but have come close on a few occasions. The Reds have started this season on fire and the former United star also shared his views on whether Jurgen Klopp’s men could go all the way.

“As for the prospect of Liverpool winning the league for the first time since 1990, they would not expect me to say anything other than it fills me with dread.

“A long time ago they challenged United to come back when we had won it 18 times. Twenty years later United had raised the bar to 20 and no-one on my side wants to see it swing back the other way.”

Fortunately for the Red half of Merseyside, their attack has been exceptional this season and going into the 10th round of games, Liverpool are the top scorers in the league. The other issue for the Reds has been their ability to keep a clean sheet.

The Reds have kept just one clean sheet all season but should they keep scoring goals for fun, that should not be an issue this season.
