Liverpool Linked With Another German Defender As Part Of January Plans

Liverpool’s search for the next big defender could see them raiding Germany once again. The Mirror believes that the Reds are plotting a move to bring in Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah. The 20-year-old German international is one of the rising stars in the German league and Jurgen Klopp has earmarked him for a place in the Merseyside club.

Tah is a no-nonsense defender and is even known for his control of the ball. The German could become the second centre-back that Klopp signs from Germany. The former Borussia Dortmund manager did sign Joel Matip from Schalke on a free transfer and that has worked out a treat for both the player and manager.

Matip has formed a great partnership with Dejan Lovren, even though the pair have conceded a lot of goals this season. The major worry for the Reds has been regarding cover for the duo with Lucas Leiva being used as a centre-back in many games.

More quality needed for Liverpool

It isn’t just Lucas that is a problem for the club. The Brazilian and new signing Ragnar Klavan are decent options to have but they are not at the same level as Lovren or Matip. Liverpool do have another world class defender in Mamadou Sakho but the French defender’s time at the club is more or less over thanks to his indiscretions over the seasons.

Klopp does have a great record of bringing in cheap and quality transfers from Germany. While many will speak about the money spent on Georginio Wijnaldum and Saido Mane, both players have slotted in well at Liverpool.

Loris Karius from Mainz and Matip, as already stated, have been great additions to the club and have been first team players this season. The duo didn’t cost all that much but Tah could be a different story. The defender is a German international and although he is young, he does have a lot of potential and could be a great player for years to come.

Liverpool could be playing in the Champions League next season and the need to have a lot of quality in every department is a necessity. A move for Tah would be perfect and would also fit into the grand scheme of things at Liverpool. Leverkusen will try to make it hard for Liverpool but the Reds do have the upper hand and that is Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds have kept just one clean sheet in the Premier League this season and Tah could be the answer to that problem.
