Good News As Liverpool Lead The Chase To Sign £18.5m Serie A Star For One Of The Most Important Positions

Liverpool have been in the market for a midfield general for the team and have been linked with a number of players such as Mahmoud Dahoud and Geoffrey Kondogbia in the last few months. While Dahoud seems to be a tough target for the Reds, there is some good news regarding the French midfielder at Inter Milan.

There are reports from the Italian media that suggest that the club is fed up of the non-performance of the 23-year-old and they are willing to let him leave in January on loan. La Gazzetta

dello Sport also claims that the Frenchman could be signed at the end of the loan deal for £18.5 million.

While Jurgen Klopp would certainly want to strengthen his side, he does need to move fast if there is any intent of signing Kondogbia. The 23-year-old is a target for Marseille as well and there are a few reports which claim that Antonio Conte is looking to bring the Frenchman to Chelsea.

Kondogbia hasn’t been at his best for the Serie A club this season and has featured in eight league games for the struggling side. Inter did sign him from Monaco but the midfielder has not displayed the same form as during his stint with the Ligue 1 side.

Is Kondogbia the right man for Liverpool?

Klopp has been searching for a battler in his side and Kondogbia does have a lot of those qualities but his lack of form would be a huge barrier for any club trying to sign him up. Also, Klopp could use his know-how of the Bundesliga and sign other youngsters from the German system rather than try it out on a risky player.

Currently, the Reds are playing with midfielder trio and Jordan Henderson is the deepest midfielder in the side. The Englishman not only covers the defence but also starts attacks with his passing ability.

Kondogbia would have to replace either Emre Can or Georginio Wijnaldum in the side but the Frenchman is not the best box-to-box midfielder around either. The 23-year-old would be a great option to have as a defensive midfielder but the Reds do not use such a player in their dynamic 4-3-3 system which allows for a lot of movement to the front five with Henderson holding the fort.

The Inter star does seem to be on his way out of the club and maybe working under Klopp could revive his career but it does seem unlikely that the German would go out of his to sign Kondogbia. Klopp certainly has an ace or two under his sleeve and it would not be a surprise if he does move for a midfielder in January but it probably will be a signing from Germany rather than Italy.
