Liverpool Invite ‘The Next Alan Hansen’ Cian Harries For A Trial From Coventry City

Liverpool have certainly provided a lot of chances for young players to prove their ability under Jurgen Klopp and the club is always on the lookout for the next big talent. They seem to have fixed their sights on a player that apparently reminds Liverpool fans of the great Alan Hansen with Cian Harries of Coventry City being asked to train with the side.

The 19-year-old defender certainly is a promising talent and many have labeled him as the next Hansen, especially due to his calmness with the ball at his feet and his ability to play out from the back.

His rise in stock can be gathered from the fact that he has already made 14 appearances for the first team of Coventry and even signed a contract extension in November which keeps him at the club till 2020.

There are major financial issues for the League One club that lies in 22^nd place and that could play a huge role in Harries’ future away from the club. Although Coventry would want him to stay and develop at the club, they have their hands tied as a decent figure from Liverpool or any other club could see the youngster make the switch.

Harries did also have a spell at Cheltenham Town last January and even former manager Tony Mowbray had stated that the youngster is a fantastic prospect for the future. Liverpool have asked for permission for the Wales youth international to train with the side and it will be interesting to see if Coventry can resist the temptation to sell the defender.

Liverpool do have quality defenders in the side and are playing them regularly

While the Reds could do with another quality centre back who could solve their defensive issues for a number of years, they do have good youngsters coming through the system. Joe Gomez is fit again and is looking to play some first team games, especially in the upcoming cup fixtures.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is another player that is on the fringes of the first team and was even expected to play in the 2-2 draw against Sunderland. Harries would probably be playing in the reserves for a season or two before getting a chance in the first team should he impress the Liverpool manager.

For now the deal does look to be a long way from completion. The Reds have to see him play regularly and we have seen a number of trials fail for the player in question, hopefully, for Harries, it will be good news at the end of it all.
