Klopp Gives Injury Update; Star Midfielder To Return Against Southampton

Fresh after the 0-0 draw in the FA Cup third round game against Plymouth, Liverpool manager did have some good news regarding the return of a few of his superstars. The Merseyside club did play their youngest side ever in a game against the League Two side but they should have more firepower in the upcoming EFL Cup game against Southampton.

The Reds taken on the Saints in the first leg at St Mary’s and Klopp is hopeful that Philippe Coutinho could be coming back into the side. The Brazilian has been out of action since picking up an injury against Sunderland a couple of months ago, and should be available soon according to the German manager

.

“He needs minutes in training and as soon as possible minutes in games. No final decision.

“He’s had his third complete session with the team, tomorrow the fourth.

“I think Phil is fit enough to be part of the squad. That could be minutes. It depends on the game.”

There was more good news regarding a couple of other Liverpool stars. Jordan Henderson and James Milner also missed the game against Plymouth and could be returning soon. The former Manchester City man has been incredible as the left-back for the side and Klopp added that Milner has “no issues anymore”.

The major worry is about Jordan Henderson, who could be suffering from the same heel injury which affected him last season as he was away from the side for a while. Liverpool did decide not to take up a surgery for the former Sunderland man and Klopp did give an update about the Englishman’s injury.

Klopp stated that the heel is still painful but Henderson should be on his way back to the side soon. The German also added that the Reds do not have any more injuries to worry about and he should have a strong side to pick for the EFL Cup game.

Liverpool did reach the final of the competition last season but Southampton will be no pushovers and would certainly be looking to knock out the Reds. Claude Puel has done a great job with the Saints and Klopp might be looking to field a strong team, even though they have to face Manchester United at the weekend.

The Reds cannot lose momentum in the league and the extra fixture of the FA Cup replay will be playing on the mind of the German. But the Reds have to take one game at a time and if they have Coutinho and Milner back, they could be winning games rather easily.
