Sky Sports Reporter – £105,000-a-week Wage Demand Could Be A Problem For Liverpool In This Deal

Mamadou Sakho hasn’t played for Liverpool this season and although he has been linked with a move to a number of clubs, there could be a problem regarding his wages. It isn’t new that the Frenchman is not in the plans of Jurgen Klopp and has been frozen out of the Liverpool side.

The former Paris Saint-Germain defender has been a target for Swansea, Southampton and Sevilla in the winter window but Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol has stated that the wages of Sakho, which is stated to be high, cannot be matched by the clubs.

Kaveh stated (Via Dailystar):

“Sevilla, Southampton and Swansea interested in Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho but can’t match £105,000 a week he’s on at Anfield.”

That would be coming as a big blow to the Frenchman, who has been looking to find a new team and get back to playing regular football. It was a series of misdemeanours by the 26-year-old at the start of the season that saw him being kept out of the first team and even with injuries to Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip through the season; Sakho has not been called back into the team.

The Frenchman certainly was one of the best Liverpool defenders last season but a ban for substance abuse, which was overturned, ended his season.

A plethora of options for Sakho but what should he do next?

Sakho certainly has to leave the Premier League club to find regular football but with his wages being a stumbling block, the best option for him to be would be taking a wage cut. It seems unlikely that Liverpool or Klopp would want to pay any part of the wages for the Frenchman.

The options might not look all that great but Sevilla are having a great season again in La Liga and could be looking to win another European title this season. Southampton wouldn’t be a poor option either but it would be rather weird if Klopp lets another Premier League side take Sakho on loan.

There had been talk about some clubs from France also looking to take Sakho back to Ligue 1 with Lille and Nice leading the way but it would be best if the deal is complete sooner rather than later. Liverpool want a permanent solution to the Sakho problem and it surely is a matter of time before the Frenchman finds another club to play at.
