Liverpool youngster Sheyi Ojo could be on his way out of the club as a move beckons. The Northern Echo reports that Newcastle United want to sign the 19-year-old Englishman and Rafa Benitez wants to conclude the deal in the current transfer window.

While Ojo hasn’t played a great number of games this season, he is one of the brightest and most talented players coming out from the Liverpool academy in years. The attacker did play in the 0-0 draw against Plymouth in the FA Cup and is expected to play once again when the sides meet in the replay.

Ojo couldn’t play many games at the start of the season as he picked up a back injury which kept him out of training until November. Now that he is back, Jurgen Klopp would want to use the youngster in as many games as possible, especially in the cups.

Newcastle, for their part, would provide Ojo with a lot more playing opportunities as they look to gain promotion back to the Premier League. Rafa Benitez has great ties with Liverpool too and the deal could take place.

Liverpool might want to keep Ojo just to provide cover to the likes of Sadio Mane and Philippe Coutinho. While Mane is out and scoring in the AFCON, Coutinho recently returned from a ligament injury and Klopp would not want to deal with more injured players later in the season.

No transfer activity for the Reds means a star for Ojo

Liverpool were linked with a number of players before the start of the transfer window but that has not come to fruition. The Reds don’t seem to be in the running to sign anyone and that means the likes of youngsters such as Sheyi Ojo and Ovie Ejaria could end up staying at Anfield.

The pair might not get a lot of playing time under their belt but they would act as decent cover for the first team players. Liverpool have seen the rise of a number of youngsters this season. While Ejaria and Ojo did a pretty good job in the FA Cup, Ben Woodburn hasn’t disappointed either as he became Liverpool’s youngest ever scorer.

Even in the Premier League game against Manchester United, it was another youngster who stole the show. Trent Alexander-Arnold started in place of the injured Nathaniel Clyne and was one of the best Liverpool defenders in the game.

Ojo could still find a lot of chances to impress the main boss and with Liverpool looking to overhaul Chelsea at the top of the table, there is still a lot to play in the Premier League.
