Forget Christian Pulisic! Liverpool Told Attacking Target From Borussia Dortmund Is Not For Sale As He Extends Contract

Liverpool’s plans to bring in Christian Pulisic in the winter window have definitely come to an end as the American has signed a contract extension with his current club Borussia Dortmund.

Jurgen Klopp is an admirer of the 18-year-old American but Borussia Dortmund had made it clear earlier that they were not going to sell him anytime soon and now the Bundesliga club have announced that Pulisic will be at the club until June 2020.

Director Michael Zorc had earlier spoken about the interest in the highly rated American and how the club would not be pressurised into selling him.

“We have made it quite clear that we are not going to sell Christian and that we are planning with him,” Zorc told Germany’s Bild newspaper (cited by talkSPORT)

“Liverpool can save the effort of making an offer.”

The American has been a rising star in the Bundesliga and Klopp was hopeful of luring the talented midfielder to Anfield. Pulisic did play some lower league football in England, so the conditions are well known to the Dortmund player and could have been a great fit for the side.

The youngster has scored twice and also provided four assists in the Bundesliga this season but his decision to sign a new deal does put a spanner in the deal Liverpool were trying to put across.

This also all but ends Liverpool’s hopes of bringing in any players in the winter window, something that Jurgen Klopp also alluded to recently as he stated that clubs are not willing to let players leave in the winter window.

It certainly has been a frustrating time for the German manager as his side have slipped from being the closest title rivals to Chelsea and now sit in the fourth position in the league and are in serious peril of missing out on Champions League football next season.

The Reds lost surprisingly at home to Swansea to continue a winless run in the Premier League since the start of the year. The defence was once again the problem for the Merseyside club and Klopp lamented those poor decisions and silly mistakes cost his side against the Swans.

Liverpool do have a chance to redeem their last performance by taking on Southampton in the second leg of the EFL Cup semi-final. Should the Reds beat the Saints by two clear goals, they could be looking to pick up their first title under Klopp.

That would certainly be a good start but they need to finish in the top four at least and without any new signings coming in, that task will definitely get tough.
