Liverpool fell to Southampton in the EFL Cup thanks to a 0-1 home loss. The only goal of the game was scored by Shane Long but Liverpool dominated possession without really troubling the Saints defence.

The Reds were aiming to make it a third final under Jurgen Klopp but were foiled by an excellent Southampton team that frustrated the home side and hit them on the break. This made it just one win from seven games in 2017 and the Reds have not lost back-to-back games at home after going almost a year without a negative result.

The Merseyside club started with a strong line-up but they didn’t have the early season fizz and their season is unravelling really quickly. The next game for the Premier League side is against Wolverhampton in the FA Cup and if they play in a similar manner, it could lead to more frustration for Klopp’s men.

While the result was a shock to a few, Twitter had a field day with the performance of the team. We look back at the game and share the best reactions.
