Nigerian Forward Confirms Liverpool’s Interested In Signing Him – Report

It isn’t normal for a player to actually come out and say that a top European club is after him but that is exactly what Henry Onyekuru has done. The talented Nigerian forward has been a revelation for the Eupen side in the Belgian league and he had been linked with a move to Liverpool, amongst a number of other clubs.

The 19-year-old winger has scored or assisted 18 times in just 25 appearances for the side and even though Eupen are 13th

in the league, they could be selling their star before the end of this transfer window.

The youngster was speaking to reporters on Saturday

and came out with the fact that Liverpool are actually tracking him.

“My agency informed me Liverpool have shown interest. I am glad a big team like Liverpool too have showed interest in me”.

This does seem to be going with the script as a source close to the club had also recently stated that the Reds are interested in the services of the talented winger.

“Onyekuru’s agent told me about Liverpool’s interest yesterday. He will most likely leave before the end of this transfer window”.

While there have been no new players coming into the club this window, it is a bit of a surprise seeing this rumour come out from nowhere. There isn’t a lot that has been said regarding youngster coming in, though there were rumours of Ben Brereton joining the youth team of the club.

The Reds have had a frustrating time in getting the players they have wanted and that has impacted their charge for the Premier League title. Mahmoud Dahoud and Christian Pulisic were earmarked as transfers for the January window but the pair have stuck with their respective clubs in the Bundesliga.

This, coupled with the fact that Liverpool lost out Philippe Coutinho to injury and then Sadio Mane leaving for the African Cup of Nations has hurt the club as they have slipped 10 points behind the leaders Chelsea in the Premier League.

Liverpool’s attack certainly does not look like the one that was tearing open sides in the first half of the season and they were also knocked out of the FA Cup and EFL Cup in consecutive games.

While the first team certainly needs some new blood, Onyekuru might not be the player that changes fortunes instantly. The youngster still needs time to develop and that can certainly be done at Anfield and with Klopp leading the side.

The Nigerian does have a bright future ahead of him but he has to be careful of the next club he moves to. The right decision could make him one of the best in the world or he could fade away into the uncertainty that is the life of a footballer.
