Liverpool Battle Hard Tp Sign £13 Million Torino Defender Ahead Of Rivals

Liverpool’s need for a quality defender seems to be hitting Italian shores based on recent rumours from the Serie A. TransferMarketWeb claim that the Merseyside club are battling hard with two other clubs for the signature of Davide Zappacosta.

Zappacosta plays for Torino and the right-back has been one of their brightest players this campaign. The report claims that Roma and Napoli rival the Reds for the 24-year-old and are willing to pay around £13 million, even though Torino do not want to sell the Italian.

The defender played as a winger previously but has starred as a right-back this season. His versatility could come of great use to all the clubs linked with him but the deal seems highly unlikely to take place with Jurgen Klopp at the helm.

Do Liverpool Need Zappacosta? The Kop Times Verdict

While the rumours will come in thick and fast, the player isn’t the one that Liverpool need at the moment. The Reds do have issues at the back but those are limited to the left-back and centre-back positions.

Alberto Moreno, Mamadou Sakho and Lucas Leiva are sure to leave this coming summer and that would mean the Reds have to bring in more players for the above-mentioned positions.

In the right-back position Liverpool have a lot of quality in Nathaniel Clyne, who has been one of the most consistent players for the club since joining from Southampton. The England international has competition from one of the rising stars in the team with youngster Trent Alexander-Arnold doing his bit.

Alexander-Arnold even deputised well for Clyne against Manchester United in a Premier League clash as the Reds came out with a hard-fought draw.

Zappacosta probably is suited to playing in the Italian league and expecting him to make a move to Liverpool certainly is not on. The defender would be below Clyne in the pecking order and may well be better served moving elsewhere.

Liverpool have a lot of work to do in the summer by bringing in players for a number of positions but Zappacosta isn’t one who will be playing at Anfield next season.
