Liverpool Could Lose Out £8.5m Midfielder To Dortmund, But Are Determined To Sign Him

Liverpool could be dealt a blow in their search for a quality midfielder for next season. One player who has been linked with a move to Anfield is the rising German star Mahmoud Dahoud but the deal to sign the 21-year-old could be scuppered by Borussia Dortmund.

Jurgen Klopp’s former club are set to activate a £8.5 million buy-out for the German midfielder and that could end Liverpool’s chances of signing him according to the Daily Star

.

It is being reported that the German midfielder wants to continue his development in the same country and is not willing to move to another country.

Liverpool though have not given up on signing the Syria-born star and are desperate to press ahead in the expectation that Klopp’s history in Germany can land the midfielder.

Dahoud is a versatile midfielder and can play in an attacking or defensive role in the middle of the park. The 21-year-old had a fantastic season with Monchengladbach last season but this time around it hasn’t gone to plan.

The 21-year-old has played in 19 Bundesliga games this season and has chipped in with one goal and four assists. Most of his games have been in the holding midfielder’s position and that is where he would be playing for Liverpool too.

It will be interesting to see just where he would fit in but a pairing of Jordan Henderson and Dahoud would be the ideal scenario for the Reds. Liverpool don’t really have a lot of quality players in midfield and should they sign Dahoud, it could spell the end for a few players.

Lucas Leiva is sure to leave the Premier League next season with reports claiming he is set to join Galatasaray in Turkey. Another player that could be on the chopping block is Emre Can. The German international hasn’t progressed at all under Klopp and despite a couple of good performances lately, his inconsistency could see him being shipped out.

Dahoud might not be the finished article yet but he does have the makings of a great player. Liverpool need to be smart and decisive in their transfer dealings in the summer and if they make it to the Champions League, bringing in players will be far easier.
