Liverpool Dealt With A Transfer Boost In Pursuit Of Defensive Target – Club Ready To Sell Outside The Country

Liverpool have been given a huge boost in their pursuit of one of the best defenders from the Serie A. There were earlier reports linking Roma’s Kostas Manolas with a move away from the Italian capital and Calciomercato have provided more information with their latest report.

The Italian outlet claims that Manolas was a target for Serie A champions Juventus last summer. The report also claims that Fabio Paratici, Juve’s sporting director, had contacted the representatives of Manolas in hopes of signing him but that was before Miralem Pjanic’s decision to join the Old Lady.

Roma now seems determined to not allow Manolas to join their Serie A rivals as having two of their best players from recent years playing for the Old Lady would be too much to bear.

The report states that Roma would be happier selling the centre-back to a club outside Italy and that would mean good news for the likes of Liverpool, who have been chasing the defender for a while.

Manolas too isn’t sure about his future though he did say recently that he didn’t have control of Roma’s decision. The Greek international said

:

“It’s all up to Roma. If they want to keep me, they know what to do but if they want to sell me there is nothing I can do about it.”

Liverpool have been looking to revamp their options in defence with only Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren looking comfortable as a pair this season. The Reds have struggled to keep clean sheets and an overhaul is certain with the likes of  Lucas Leiva, Sakho and even Ragnar Klavan in the crossfire as they could depart the club.

The Reds have to work hard in the summer if they are to make their squad better. Manolas has been one of the better players for the side from Rome and would turn out to be an asset for any club he signs for.

The 25-year-old wouldn’t come on the cheap but he certainly would be cheaper than another Liverpool target, Virgil van Dijk. Only time will tell if Manolas is the right candidate for Liverpool but for now, his chances of joining an English club certainly is better than that of any other country.
