Simon Mignolet against Russia.

Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet started in goal for Belgium on Tuesday amidst growing doubts about the Belgian stopper’s quality. Somehow, Mignolet started for his national team against Russia and it was all looking fine as Christian Benteke scored twice and won a penalty for his side. Belgium went 3 up and it seemed as if they were heading towards an easy victory.

But Russia decided to bounce back and give a fight. After having taken the lead, they let slip and conceded 3 on the trot to go 3-1 down. But they managed to score 2 goals, including one in the stoppage time to level things up.

Simon Mignolet put on a horror show in goal as he failed to stop two of Russia’s comeback goals, with both the shots hitting the goalkeeper and moving into the net.

Though the second Russian goal was a difficult one to stop, the third goal was quite a soft one and Mignolet let it go through his legs and it looked pathetic.

The Liverpool fans were furious about his performance and it was evident on twitter as they screamed their frustration out. Mignolet showed some signs of improvement for Liverpool recently and all the belief that the Liverpool faithful gathered on the stopper went flying away as Mignolet’s poor show in front of goal doesn’t seem to stop.

Here are some of the tweets from the LFC fans where they visibly vented their disappointment at Simon Mignolet.

Alright! It looks like Liverpool right away gave Marseille a call regarding Mignolet’s availability!

Simon Mignolet certainly needs to show some massive improvement to save his Liverpool career. It is going to be difficult for a goalkeeper to bounce back as confidence is the key to a keeper’s good performance. With that lacking, Simon would have to really strive hard to come back to form.
