Fans Opinion: Should Liverpool Complete The Signing Of 16-year Prodigy To Solve Left-back Issues?

There is a wide perception that Liverpool haven’t had a decent left back since the days of John Arne Riise. Andre Dossena, Paul Konchesky and more recently Alberto Moreno have failed to nail down a regular starting spot for the Merseyside club. James Milner, originally a central midfielder has been converted to a left back. Alberto Moreno has failed to impress Klopp and he will be looking to move to greener pastures in the summer. Plus there are very few talented left backs currently and they play for the bigger clubs like Bayern Munich, Real Madrid etc. So left back is a difficult position to fill and Liverpool are looking at a number of options to sign in the summer. The most interesting player Liverpool are looking for that position is the 16-year-old Fulham left back Ryan Sessegnon.

At 16 years of age, Ryan Sessegnon is a prodigious talent being nurtured with care by Fulham boss  Slavisa Jokanovic. In 26 appearances he has scored 6 goals and created 2 assists. These stats are mind boggling for a 16-year-old who plays at left back.

Ryan Sessegnon is a typical modern day full back who basically loves to contribute to his teams attacking endeavours whilst taking care of his defensive duties. He possesses tremendous speed both on and off the ball. With his pace he can stop counter-attacks and with a 53% winning ratio of tackles, he is not afraid to get stuck in. Sessegnon has got great composure on the ball and has been tidy in possession. The most impressive aspect of his game is the utilisation of his pace, and his eagerness to find pockets of space to move into the attacking third. He shows tremendous vision and has ample chances this season. When he has the ball he doesn’t always cross the ball, he happily decides to play a short pass instead depending on the situation.

Despite being 16 years of age he shows tremendous courage to go into tackles and come out unscathed. This overexuberance leads him to lose balls unnecessarily. His delivery of crosses also needs to be developed. All this will come with experience.

A MOVE TO LIVERPOOL?

Despite all this, we forget that he is just 16 years old and truly has a long way to go. Liverpool signing him will be one for the future rather than addressing the current needs. So it would be beneficial for both parties if Liverpool look at other options which would help them and also not hamper Sessegnon’s development.

Right now, Liverpool need proven quality, international experience, players who can go straight to the starting line-up. Sessegnon still has a lot to improve on and he is at the perfect place in Craven Cottage to do that before moving to a Premier League club.
