Injury Blow – Klopp Admits Key Midfielder Could Not Play Again This Season

Jordan Henderson’s injury problems have plagued him time and again, this season being no different. The Liverpool captain has been out of action since the end of the February and now Jurgen Klopp has revealed that the season could be over for the Englishman.

The last game that Henderson played was the 2-0 win over Tottenham on 11^th February and he picked up an ankle injury during late February. Scans have revealed that there is no break in the ankle but that hasn’t allowed the Englishman to return to the side or play any minutes at all.

Klopp was asked about the chances of Henderson returning to the first team and the former Borussia Dortmund manager wasn’t sure when the Englishman would be kicking a ball against the opposition.

“I don’t know, we will see,” said Klopp.

“At this moment he cannot really train so we have to wait for this, that was the plan from the beginning.”

The German manager did add that the club was doing all they can but will have to wait for Henderson to return to playing football.

“We are in intense talks with different medical departments but we have to wait. He is already not patient any more.

“He looks really healthy but he cannot play football and that is the situation at the moment. If something changes we can talk about it.”

Hendo has played 24 Premier League games this season and has been one of the better players for the Reds. Even though he hasn’t scored many goals or provided assists, his distribution has been great and his ability to control the tempo from midfield have ensured that Liverpool miss the player.

The Reds have struggled to replace Henderson in the heart of the midfield. Even with the likes of Georginio Wijnaldum and Emre Can stepping up in recent weeks, there still is something missing from the Liverpool midfield.

Should Henderson return before the season ends, Liverpool would have a great chance of staying in the top four. But with each game he misses, it raises doubts about his ability to sustain a lengthy Premier League career and be a Liverpool player.
