Liverpool Begin Negotiations To Complete Deal For German Midfielder – Reports

Liverpool are reportedly happy to enter negotiations with Emre Can once again, though it looks like the talks may drag until next season.

Emre Can will enter the final year of his current deal at Anfield and if anything is to happen by logic, Liverpool would be forced to cash in on him this summer, or let him leave for free next summer.

However, it now seems like Jurgen Klopp is ready to hold on to the midfielder in his final year of the contract and try to negotiate a deal. This might sound unlikely as it is quite rare for a team to try and negotiate deals for young players in the final year of their contracts, as the player’s head might easily get turned towards bigger and better things.

Emre Can has done really well for the Reds after a poor start to the season. He has stepped up in the absence of captain Jordan Henderson and has shown what he is capable of.

Can has made 35 appearances this season and has scored 4 goals and 3 assists for Liverpool. A total of 2360 minutes on the pitch seems quite sufficient so there must be no problems for the player regarding the amount of game time he is receiving right now.

However, when Jordan Henderson, Adam Lallana, and Georginio Wijnaldum were fit, they were the preferred trio in the central midfield. Can has been featuring regularly since Henderson’s injury and this can be considered positive as it only shows that the manager believes in the player.

Competition for places is understandable at a club of Liverpool’s size and hence we believe that the negotiations might be taking a hit because of the difference in numbers regarding the wages. What else could the reason be? The manager seems to trust the player, and the player is visibly happy to be a part of this team.

And now with reports claiming that Klopp is prepared to keep the player in the final year of his contract, it only shows that it is only a matter of time before the concerned parties arrive at a suitable conclusion.

Do you think Emre Can will be a Liverpool player beyond next season?
