Alberto Moleiro could be on his way to Liverpool for a throwaway price

Liverpool and Inter Milan are keeping tabs on UD Las Palmas’ rising star, Alberto Moleiro.

Both Liverpool and Inter have been actively scouting Moleiro for several months, indicating their keen interest in securing his services during the summer transfer window. Las Palmas is aware of this attention and would consider a transfer if the right offer comes along, despite Moleiro’s contract running until 2026 with a hefty €60m release clause. However, the Spanish club may be open to negotiations for a fee in the region of €25-30m.

Another attacking midfielder?

With Arne Slot set to take over from Jurgen Klopp at Anfield, Moleiro could be a perfect fit for the Dutchman’s attacking style of play. Interestingly, Liverpool’s interest in Moleiro is not new, as they previously attempted to sign him two years ago. Alongside Liverpool and Inter, Real Betis and Villarreal have also expressed interest in the young attacker.

However, some questions arise regarding Liverpool’s pursuit of Moleiro. With players like Dominik Szoboszlai and Fabio Carvalho (currently on loan at Hull) already in the squad, both capable of playing the attacking midfielder role, the need for another foreign player is rather unnecessary. Let’s also not forget Harvey Elliott made a name for himself as an attacking midfielder on loan at Blackburn.

Considering the homegrown player rule, acquiring another foreign talent might not align with Liverpool’s long-term strategy. We have to get some Englishmen on board and should have done so last summer, with the departures of Jordan Henderson and James Milner. Luckily for us, there are multiple transfer windows in a season.

It’s essential for Liverpool to assess their options carefully and consider how Moleiro would fit into the squad dynamics and their overall transfer strategy.
