Liverpool Finally Agree £25m Deal With Defender – Star Poses In The New LFC Home Kits

Liverpool have announced that Croatian centre-back Dejan Lovren has signed a new deal to remain at the club for another 4 years. The former Southampton defender has become one of the key men at the club and is set to continue his story with the Merseyside giants earning around £100,000-a-week as per his new contract.

Lovren joined the Reds in 2014 from Southampton and it has been a rocky road for the 27-year-old defender. There have been a number of highs and lows with many remembering his goal against Borussia Dortmund in last season’s Europa League as his greatest Liverpool moment.

Lovren finally signed on the dotted lines on a deal worth £25m over a four-and-a-half year span. This makes him as one of the top-earning defenders in the Premier League alongside the likes of Luiz and Kompany.

There have been a number of instances where the defender has been caught out and his errors seem to be magnified in a Liverpool team that just cannot keep clean sheets. Jurgen Klopp was, however, more forgiving and stated that Lovren will get better with time, though he admitted that the decision making of the defender is something that needs to be worked on.

This also will allay fears of wholesale changes in the Liverpool defence during the summer. The Reds will be looking for a new left-back and will need additional enforcements for their central defence.

Lovren has actually done a pretty good job when paired with Joel Matip but the pair haven’t played too many games together this season due to injuries. The Croatian will be looking to perform much better in the upcoming season as he looks to add to a decent season this time around. The fact that Lovren has signed a new contract shows that he has his manager’s trust. This should put off all fears about Lovren’s future at the club.

Liverpool will be counting on Lovren for the remaining games of the season as they look to finish in the top four. Their destiny of finishing fourth is not in their hands and they will have to rely on Manchester United or Manchester City to drop points. If Lovren can help the Reds keep a few clean sheets in the upcoming games, 4th place finish could become a reality.
