Liverpool are not apparently targeting Luan

Liverpool were earlier linked with a move for Brazilian youngster Luan and it was widely believed that a £26 million deal was on the cards according to Mirror and the deal was set to be completed. However, it now looks like the whole news was false, and that no deal is imminent, with Gremio president claiming that no official approach has been made yet.

Gremio President spoke after their 2-0 win over Botafogo on Sunday and was quoted as saying by the Express,

“We have no information, no official proposal. We have absolutely no concrete proposal.”

It is rather confusing these days, with a number of news doing the rounds. It was reported that a deal was close, while the club president says that no offer has been made. The reports are highly contrasting. In a matter of just a day, everything has completely changed.

This can rather be called as lazy journalism as it is quite easy to link Liverpool with Brazilian players, with the likes of Roberto Firmino, Lucas Leiva, and Philippe Coutinho all at the club already. It looks like it is quite easy to put up a news piece and say that Klopp is looking to add Brazilian flavour to his Liverpool squad.

However, the verdict now is that there is no apparent deal in place for Gremio’s Luan and it’d be safe to say that Liverpool are not chasing him.

The Kop Times Verdict

The report stated that he is valued at £26 million. But if we put things into logical perspective, it is easy to see that the Reds can sign a lot more talented and established players at the same price. Why sign Luan, who has no European experience and his only credible and noteworthy performance being his showing in the Olympics 2016?

A lot of experienced players could be available for the same price and it would be wise for Klopp to rather try and sign those players instead of signing an unknown Brazilian for such money. Yes, Gabriel Jesus has been a success at Manchester City. But that doesn’t happen all the time and Liverpool cannot afford to take any chances with transfer deals.

Safety first would be preferable.
