Carra Raves – £76m Attacker Is Liverpool’s Answer To Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez In The Top Four Race

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has heaped praise on Brazilian magician Philippe Coutinho and described him as a player who the other clubs in world football would be looking at. Coutinho has had a brilliant season for Jurgen Klopp’s side and has received praises from all around the world. And Carragher has now joined the list of those admirers and has appreciated Coutinho’s efforts this season. The Brazilian was also linked with a £76m (90) move for Barcelona earlier.

The legendary Jamie Carragher feels that Coutinho’s achievement at Liverpool is similar to that of Sanchez’ at Arsenal and thinks that he is Liverpool’s star player. Certainly, not many would disagree with Jamie’s comments here.

Coutinho has played 35 games for Liverpool this season, although he missed a good chunk of games due to injury-enforced absence. Nevertheless, he hasn’t let that affect his performance on the pitch and has shone for the Reds.

Carragher was encouraged to see Coutinho raising his game to match Sanchez’s efforts at Arsenal in the top-four race.

Carragher told Sky Sports (h/t The Sport Review),

“Alexis has stepped it up for Arsenal. He was going to be the star player to take Arsenal to the top four. Coutinho did that [today]. He is Liverpool’s star player. He is the one player other clubs in world football would be looking at.”

Coutinho has scored 13 goals this season and has provided 9 assists along with it. Though Sadio Mane was the top scorer for Liverpool earlier, the Senegal star’s injury has seen Coutinho catch up with that tally and join him as the joint top scorer the Reds this season. While Mane has 8 assists to his name, Coutinho has one more than that. However, Mane has played 6 fewer games than the Brazilian.

Sanchez, on the other hand, has been the solo star for Arsenal in what has been a rather disappointing campaign for the Gunners. They currently languish at 5th place in the league table, 4 behind Liverpool with a game in hand. The Chilean superstar has played an astonishing 48 games this season so far and has scored 26 goals and 19 assists in all competitions.

Whether or not if Coutinho would have reached the same tally as Sanchez, had he been fit and playing is debatable but the impact that both the players have had on their teams is quite similar as Carragher has stated.

Do you think Jamie Carragher is right with his comparison?
