Pre-contract Agreed – Liverpool Could Complete First Summer Move For Iker Casillas

Former Real Madrid superstar Iker Casillas reportedly (AS) has an offer from Liverpool to choose from, as the Reds continue their hunt for a new goalkeeper. Casillas is a legend and is a huge figure in Real Madrid’s history, having made a total of 725 appearances for the Spanish giants.

The Spaniard moved to Porto, much to the disappointment of the Real Madrid fans and now a report has emerged, claiming that Casillas has an offer from Liverpool and a host of other clubs as well. The report

According to Spanish newspaper AS, Casillas has accepted a pre-contract offer from Liverpool and is keen to end his two-year stay at Porto, after joining them from Real Madrid. Casillas, now 36, made 43 appearances for the Portuguese side and is their first choice goalkeeper.

The fact that Liverpool are now in the Champions League is considered a huge positive by Iker Casillas. The former Real Madrid goalkeeper has played an incredible 175 times in the Champions League for Los Blancos and Porto. And Casillas is now willing to compete with Simon Mignolet for the first choice starting role as goalkeeper for Liverpool.

Though Porto lost the league to Benfica, Casillas had a magnificent season, in which he conceded only 23 goals in 43 games. He managed 23 clean sheets in those 43 games and he still has what it takes to be a nightmare to the strikers.

Buying Casillas may not be a great decision from Liverpool. He is 36, and will not serve as the long-term solution for the club by any means. Klopp is still building a team and so a young and established goalkeeper would fit the bill better than the classy but old Iker Casillas.

Mignolet has shown signs of improvement and Karius would improve as well. So there isn’t a desperate necessity to buy a goalkeeper. Liverpool need to be wise and rather focus on signing defenders and a striker, than sign a goalkeeper.

Porto will return for pre-season on July 3, and the report claims Casillas may not return to Portugal from his holidays.
