Anfield Update – Liverpool Answer To Recent Rumours Linking The Club With Iker Casillas

Liverpool have denied any interest in former Real Madrid and Porto goalkeeper Iker Casillas, well that is according to the Daily Post.

The Spanish goalkeeper was heavily linked with a move to Anfield with a few claiming that he had already signed a contract to make Anfield his home next season (Spanish newspaper AS). Fortunately or unfortunately, that will not happen as Jurgen Klopp is adamant that he is happy with the three main goalkeepers in the side.

Simon Mignolet had a great end to the season and certainly seems a much better keeper than what he was in the past. Loris Karius and Danny Ward are the two other keepers who would provide cover for the Belgian next season.

Karius did have a tumultuous start to his career in England but he still is highly rated, young, and will get better with time. There are high hopes for Danny Ward too, as the Welsh international will not be sent out on loan this season after performing brilliantly for Huddersfield.

Klopp does seem to be happy with his goalkeepers and it doesn’t really make sense to bring in Casillas given that the Spaniard would not be willing to sit on the bench. Mignolet and Karius should be our keepers for the first team while Ward develops himself by playing for the reserves.

There will be no dearth of matches this season either due to our European commitments and a policy of rotating the keepers should keep everyone happy.

Our other goalkeeper, Alex Manninger is set to depart Anfield having completed his one-year contract and truth be told, he was brought in just to make up the numbers.

Casillas would have been a good signing as the youngsters in the team would have learned a lot from the legendary Spaniard. His experience is so rich that he’d be able to coach the likes of Karius and Ward. However, it is not happening and the best thing for the fans to do would be to be happy with the goalkeepers currently at the club.
