Liverpool Starlet Wants To Stay Out Of Anfield As He Targets More Playing Time With Current Club

Danny Ward wants a move away from Liverpool prior to the start of next season but before we can go all crazy and claim he is ditching us, it is only for a loan spell.

The Welshman was on loan at Huddersfield last season as he helped them win the Championship playoff final and also played in 45 matches out of the 50 for David Wagner’s side.

The 23-year-old knows that opportunities would be limited with the Reds next season and is open to staying at Huddersfield on loan.

As quoted by the Express, the Welshman stated:

“Liverpool have my contract and their needs come first, especially with the Champions League.

“On a selfish point, I would like to stay at Huddersfield. I am only young for a goalkeeper and to have a chance of playing week-in, week-out in the Premier League would be good experience for someone of my age.”

The youngster further added that sitting on the bench wouldn’t help him out much and the decision lies with his parent club.

“It would be more beneficial than being on the bench but, as I say, Liverpool have my contract.”

Ward does have a logical point as he wouldn’t be playing any of the first team games unless both Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius end up getting injured.

Mignolet, for his part, has actually done very well in the latter quarter of the season and looks much more confident in goal while Karius also did a pretty decent job while playing in the EFL Cup.

Ward wouldn’t get games even after we made it to Europe and spending time away at a club which he has been a part off and has been playing regularly will certainly help his development as he looks to become a Liverpool player in the near future.

If Ward continues playing in the same vein of form as he was with Huddersfield, his stock will certainly rise and that will provide a lot of selection issues for Jurgen Klopp in the future.

While we have had a number of young British keepers in recent years, they haven’t been all too close to making it to the first team and staying there for years to come.

Hopefully, Ward can solve this conundrum and get a chance to represent the first team regularly in a couple of years and turn out better than David James, Chris Kirkland and Scott Carson.
