Jamie Carragher Has A Message To Liverpool Fans Who Are Expecting Big Summer Signings

After the Virgil van Dijk fiasco, that still hasn’t been resolved, our transfer window activity has come under question by many. The fans are rightly upset at the prospect of losing out on one of our priority signings. However, according to Jamie Carragher signing the top players isn’t always possible in football.

The only player we have signed so far is the Chelsea starlet Dominic Solanke, who has been on fire in the U20 World Cup as he steered his country into the final. But that has been about it for us in the summer as the deal for Mohamed Salah has also cooled off recently.

Carra was speaking to Sky Sports News HQ and had this to say about signing new players in the summer window:

“You never know who the club are going to buy. But I’m the same as any supporter this season, there’s always that hope and optimism that you’re going to get all the targets that you want.

“It never really happens but that’s the same for any club. I’m sure at times you get number two or three on the list but that’s football, and that’s the way it goes.

“Hopefully for Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool, they get everyone that they want.”

Carra does make a lot of sense that we should have other options for a particular position and you never know when a team can come and take a player away.

We can’t always compete with the likes of Real Madrid or Barcelona but this time around we aren’t looking to sign players who are also linked with moves to the bigger clubs outside England.

Another transfer window of frustration?

We have often had to deal with Plan Bs and Cs. Mario Balotelli was just one example of that as we missed out on Alexis Sanchez.

Frankly, this is pretty frustrating for us as we have often been told the lack of Champions League is a deterrent to players but this time around it is our own ineptitude that has seemingly cost us Van Dijk.

The Salah deal also is being held up as the two clubs cannot reach an agreement, despite being in negotiations for a couple of weeks.

Should we again end up with players who aren’t what the manager needs and are seen as “options”, it would take a miracle to finish in a position better than last season.

FSG and Klopp have a lot of work to do, fortunately, we have a lot of time before the window closes and the season begins.
