Wrexham chief namedrops Liverpool star as a ‘dream’ signing; opportunity to cash in

Wrexham executive director Humphrey Ker praised Liverpool for signing Wataru Endo and expressed his desire to sign him next summer

Humphrey Ker praised Liverpool for signing Wataru Endo and admitted that he wants the Japan captain at Wrexham next summer. He praised the Reds for finding Endo amid demands for a high-profile defensive midfielder after losing out on Moises Caicedo.

Liverpool also stepped away from Romeo Lavia due to the inflated price tag and wage demand from the player. Lavia and Caicedo have struggled to establish themselves at Chelsea alongside numerous players who joined them for a high price.

Liverpool have enjoyed the season for the most part but dropped drastically in form last month costing them multiple trophies. Despite the heartbreak, the Reds squad no expert predicted to challenge for the top four has performed very strongly.

Liverpool defensive midfielder Wataru Endo has enjoyed a good season overall despite their recent collective dip in form.

Liverpool have continued to work under a restricted budget while competing with the high-spending Premier League clubs. Signings like Endo have played a pivotal part in the Reds’ success under Jurgen Klopp throughout his tenure.

However, the German’s impending departure after the current season ends has raised doubt over the future of many players. Liverpool signed Endo last summer only but a respectable offer could tempt the club into selling the Japanese international.

Ker told SportBible (h/t Liverpool Echo) that Liverpool made a fantastic move by signing Endo amid pressure from the fans. He said:

“In terms of who’s one of my favourite players and who would I love to see playing in a Wrexham shirt? At present, I’ve got a real soft spot for Wataru Endo. Who is kind of a perfect encapsulation of the fury in the summer when Liverpool missed out on Caicedo and Lavia and it was all doom and gloom and disaster. And then they sign Wataru Endo and it was like ‘well, who’s this guy? I’ve never heard of him’ he was only 16 million quid, what are they playing at? And then he’s been one of the signings of the season.”

Furthermore, Ker expressed his desire to see Endo at Wrexham depending on the justified wages and price demand from Liverpool. He said:

“I don’t know Wataru Endo from Adam but you can see he’s got fantastic character. He’s got a fantastic work ethic, you see in the interactions, the pictures and the other players, they clearly all really like him and he’s done an unbelievable job there. So yeah, if money is no object and the player does not particularly mind about moving to North Wales. I’m a big fan of his.”

Endo endeared himself to the Liverpool fans immediately with his fantastic performance and tenacious character alongside his humble personality. However, the Kopites understand the level at which the club is operating that demands constant upgrades to continue challenging.

More Liverpool news

The 31-year-old faces competition from Alexis Mac Allister, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Stefan Bajcetic while the Reds desire a younger defensive midfielder as a long-term solution. Neither Liverpool nor the Reds fans want to see Endo depart after just one season but the restricted budget demands them to cash in on him if they can recoup the money they spent, given his age.
