Liverpool Could Let Key First Team Midfielder Leave On Free Transfer Next Season

Liverpool are going to keep Emre Can this summer, no matter what, according to the Daily Post. The German, who is away on Confederations Cup duty with the national side, had been linked with a move away from Anfield as he is set to enter the final year of his contract.

That led to Juventus looking to sign the German amongst a number of other clubs but it looks like we are doing our best to ensure Can does not end up at a rival. The report suggests that talks between the two sides have hit a bit of a snag and we are looking to finalise a contract extension with the former Bayer Leverkusen midfielder.

Can was one of the most impressive players for us last season and everyone will remember that incredible goal away against Watford that helped us seal a top four finish in Jurgen Klopp’s first full season at Anfield. The German manager was also quoted by the Guardian

stating that he wants Can to remain at the club and how the relationship between the pair is great.

“I think it is no secret how much I like Emre. He likes the club and that is a completely normal situation. We are in talks and there is absolutely no pressure. It is all good. It is two partners with big respect for each other. If we can keep good players that makes sense for development and he is one of these good players. I am quite positive.”

Ready To Let Go For Free?

The report further adds that we would be willing to let Can leave for free if he does not sign a new deal with the club, which does seem to be a bit of a stretch.

We shouldn’t be letting Can leave for free as he is one of our best players and making him sign a new deal is of paramount importance to keep our team strong for years. Even if Juventus are interested in Can, moving during a World Cup year is a major risk for him and no one would want to end up sitting on the bench next season.

The German does have it in him to become one of the best in the Premier League and with increased competition and games next season, we could still see the best of the midfielder. Can is one of the best young players we have and the sooner we tie him down to a contract extension, the better it will be for our future.
