Former Liverpool Midfielder Advises Klopp To Sign This Real Madrid Veteran -Fans Won’t Like This

Former Liverpool midfielder, Dietmar Hamann has had his say on who should be one of our defensive signings this season. The German, who won the 2005 Champions League title with the club, wants Jurgen Klopp to add more steel in the transfer window and has suggested that we should sign a Real Madrid star.

Before we start dreaming of an Isco or Marco Asensio joining, Hamann tweeted that we should aim to sign Pepe, yes, the same Pepe that can blow up without a moment’s notice.

The German tweeted that he would take the Portuguese international in a heartbeat and there were more than a few fans who were confused with the suggestion.

The 34-year-old Pepe is set to leave Madrid as a free agent and is highly tipped (Daily Mirror) to join PSG but Hamann believes that we should sign him given his record of winning a number of trophies and the defender being a quality player.

While there is no doubt that Pepe has won a lot during his 10-year stay in Madrid, there are a number of fans who would claim that he is a bit of a cheat and has often been plain brutish against the opposition and has luckily missed out on serious sanctions.

There was a time he was suspended for kicking out on a Getafe player in the 2008-09 season which led to a 10-game ban for him. That is just one of his transgressions during his time in Madrid.

There were many that brought out his temper and the ability to get into trouble but Hamann, rather surprisingly compared Pepe to Luis Suarez.

Even though Pepe would be available on a free, the last thing we would need is the Portuguese defender. While we do need players with steel and a winning mentality, the defender could be a baggage and we highly doubt Jurgen Klopp would want such a player in his team.

We did have one of the best disciplinary records last season and that would certainly go down the drain if we were to sign Pepe. Even if he is a winner, with Madrid, we should steer clear of the 34-year-old and try our hand at other players.
