Liverpool Enter Race To Sign Bundesliga Contract Rebel Despite Having A Poor Season

Liverpool’s summer transfer additions could get a German flavour according to DailyStar as Max Meyer of Schalke is being linked with the Reds. The report claims that Klopp is monitoring the situation of the German starlet.

The Schalke midfielder rejected a new contract at the club that finished 10th in the Bundesliga but has only one year left on his current deal.

The 21-year-old didn’t have the best of seasons last time around as he scored just one goal and the lack of Champions League football for the German club could be a reason why he wants out.

“I received an offer of a contract extension, but with my management I decided to turn it down,” Meyer, with the Germany under-21 team, was reported as saying by Bild.

The German has been part of the U21 squad playing in the European Championship but would be looking to play a lot more next season and perform better if he wants to make it to the national side and the World Cup.

Jurgen Klopp’s Bundesliga connections could be a reason why we are linked with a move for the German midfielder but looking at the array of talent we already have in the side, it wouldn’t make sense for us to sign him up.

We already have the likes of Jordan Henderson, Emre Can, James Milner, Adam Lallana, Georginio Wijnaldum and even Marko Grujic who will battle it out for the three midfield slots next season.

With the addition of Mohamed Salah to the side, we could also be playing Philippe Coutinho in midfield as the Brazilian would look to play a more creative role for us. That would mean only two more midfielders would get to start alongside Coutinho.

While there is no doubt that Meyer is a player with immense potential, he does need to ensure regular first-team football for whichever club he signs next. The German has already confirmed that he would not be joining rivals Wolfsburg and possibly he is looking at Tottenham too, which is another Premier League club that is in the running for his signature.

The Kop Times Verdict

If we were in the market for a creative midfielder, we could have looked to sign Meyer but right now we need a left-back and a defensive midfielder. Should we sign players that can fill-up those two slots, our team would be complete for next season and a sustained title charge with a good performance in Europe would be on.
