New Liverpool chief executive Peter Moore has reacted to the rumours linking the club with a move for Borussia Dortmund forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The 28-year old striker has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield in the past month or so and the rumours only intensified after Dortmund CEO Hanz-Joachim Watzke revealed earlier this month that they will consider a sale if their valuation is met.

Speaking to the Bild Watzke was quoted as saying (via Independent):

“We will listen to it when a club is willing to show its appreciation for Aubameyang in a financial way as well.

“If an official bid were to reach more than £63million, it would have to be reported as a necessary to proceed. This has not happened so far.”

This led to fans taking to Twitter to enquire Moore about the prospects of our club signing the Gabon international.

One of the Reds’ fans Grant Portman tweeted to Moore saying, “If Aubameyang is available for £63m as reported (and would come) please get him! You would recoup most of the money in shirts.”

And Moore, who was appointed as the chief executive, only in February this year, issued a cheeky response, where he said: “All the profits would disappear with the cost of lettering the shirts…”

While that doesn’t tell us much, if the club is going to make a move for the star striker or not, we can only hope that the owners back Jurgen Klopp and try and sign Aubameyang.

The 28-year old finished last season as the top-scorer in the Bundesliga, with 31 goals from 32 games and added 9 more strikes from the UEFA Champions League and the DFB Pokal combined.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Aubameyang was close to sealing a transfer to French giants Paris Saint-Germain, but the move fell through, opening the doors for other interested parties to swoop.

The Kop Times Verdict

The club has shown great intent in the close season, having already completed the transfers of Dominic Solanke from Chelsea and Mohamed Salah from AS Roma. More signings are expected with the boss monitoring RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita, along with his teammate and striker Timo Werner. Hull City’s Andrew Robertson too is a key target for the club, along with Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. (Independent)

However, if Aubameyang is signed, it would make the club unstoppable and will establish Liverpool as genuine contenders for the Premier League.

Will Liverpool make a move to sign Aubameyang?
