Not Sessegnon – Liverpool Remain Keen To Sign Championship Left-back

Andrew Robertson of Hull City is still on the radar of Liverpool according to James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo. The reporter claims that the 23-year-old could be the one moving to Anfield as soon as Alberto Moreno’s future is decided.

The Spaniard wasn’t given a lot of playing time under Jurgen Klopp last season and Pearce believes that the former Sevilla man will confirm his departure from the club once he returns for training and decides as to where has to go.

We are demanding close to £15million for the 24-year-old Moreno and have even rejected a £11million bid from Serie A side Napoli for the left-back.

While Moreno does not have a future at the club, there is no real panic at Liverpool for a new left-back. The report suggests that James Milner is seen as a player who can continue his job in the position and will only be moved out of the position once the fate of Moreno is sealed.

The Spaniard will not get a lot of playing time next season as well, and it does seem like there is a real market for Moreno, even after his lack of games last season.

No left-back is a major worry for us

While Robertson isn’t the best defender in the Premier League, not buying a proper left-back would be a major folly in our transfer strategy. We have seen how prices sky rocket during the end of the transfer window and the last thing we need is another Mario Balotelli situation where we end up signing the wrong player just to bring in someone.

The lack of transfer activity on this position is a real worry for most of us, especially after last season. Milner did do a good job but even he will admit that this position isn’t his best and with a number of extra games next season, we must bring in someone who can do a job as the left-back.

Based on Pearce’s suggestions, our activity for this position will only start once Moreno decides to leave. The Spaniard will leave, that is a certainty, the question is when will he leave and which team will buy him up.
