Liverpool Target To Decide His Future In July – Player Available At A Cut-price £17.5m

Liverpool midfield target, Max Meyer is unlikely to make a decision on his future until July, reports from German tabloid Revier Sport claim.

The 21-year old has been on the club’s radar for quite some time now, with our manager Jurgen Klopp believed to be an admirer of the Schalke attacking midfielder. The Daily Star reported earlier this week that Liverpool were watching the talented starlet during the ongoing European U-21 Championships in Poland, where he is representing the Germany U-21 side.

Meyer has just twelve months on his existing contract with the Gelsenkirchen outfit, prompting several clubs to make a move for the German.

The 21-year old, who can play in central midfield, or in an advanced No.10 role, as well as on either flank, has been regarded as one of the brightest young talents to have come through in German football in recent years and Klopp is well aware of his potential, having seen him from close quarters in the past.

Liverpool had reportedly made a move for Meyer last summer, but did not pursue their interest after Schalke quoted a £40million

fee for his services. However, now that he is in the last year of his contract, the academy product has been made available for a cut-price £17.5million only.

The four-time capped German international did not have a good 2016/17 season, producing a return of just 2 goals and 5 assists from 39 games across all competitions. But the potential and the promise that he has shown is the driving force behind Liverpool’s interest in the player.

However, as per the report from Revier Sport, the Schalke ace is not going to take a call on his future until July, that is after the U-21 Euros are concluded. Germany advanced to the finals of the tournament, after they defeated the England U-21 team in the semi-finals 2-2 (4-3 on penalties), with Meyer converting his spot-kick. They will face the Spanish U-21 side on Saturday, 30 June.

Liverpool, till now, have managed to sign Dominic Solanke from Chelsea, and Mohamed Salah from AS Roma for a club-record fee of £36.9 million.
