Fabrizio Romano pours cold water on Liverpool’s pursuit of Spanish midfield star

Barcelona star Pedri unlikely to move to Liverpool in the summer, says Fabrizio Romano

Football reporter Fabrizio Romano, in his latest post for the blog Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing, has cleared the rumours regarding a potential exit of Pedri from Barcelona in the summer to Liverpool.

Romano has confirmed that, despite certain reports, the Reds have not made any approach for the Spain international and that the midfielder is happy to remain at Camp Nou.

“Despite what has been reported elsewhere, I can guarantee that there is nothing between Pedri and Liverpool, or between Liverpool and Barcelona for Pedri – the situation is completely quiet. Pedri is really happy and always super committed to Barcelona, and he’s a crucial part of the project at the Nou Camp.”

The 21-year-old has struggled from muscular injuries throughout the season, having missed a total of 19 games for Barça this term as per Transfermarkt.

The Catalan club’s financial woes mean no player is off limits for interested parties, but Romano insists that, for now, a move for him is not in the making.

Pedri’s current contract, running until 2026, also has a €1bn release clause.

Pedri unlikely to move anywhere

Pedri is arguably one of the handful players Barcelona would not want to let go under any circumstances, but in modern-day football you never know.

However, the amount of injuries Pedri has sustained this season is concerning, especially when taking into account the fact that they are all muscular in nature.

The 21-year-old has been famously pulling way too many appearances across club and country for his age, and many have hinted at an early burnout for someone who is already one of the best midfielders in the world.

The recent emergence of Pedri’s injuries further makes it unlikely for any club to offer Barcelona the kind of silly money for which they would be willing to let one of their most cherished players go.
