Liverpool legend urges out of form Reds ace to leave keyboard warriors in his wake

Liverpool legend John Aldridge backs Darwin Nunez to fulfil his potential by ignoring “fake” online fans, focusing on actual ones

John Aldridge backed Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez after his actions on social media against the toxic “idiots” online fans. Aldridge claimed that most of the abusers are pretending to be Liverpool fans, a sentiment voiced by many global Kopites.

Darwin removed most of his Instagram pictures related to his time at Liverpool alongside blocking many X Liverpool-related accounts. Many of these “verified accounts” post controversial and toxic comments to gain engagements that are essential for their income.

While many believed that Nunez’s reaction implies that he could be leaving during the summer, Aldridge’s claim makes equal sense. The 24-year-old has shown his incredible ability to single-handedly dominate the attack when he is in confidence. Having the right advisers and positive people around him could be exactly what he needs to regain his goalscoring form.

Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez took a drastic action in the social media that has caused a heated debate among the fanbase.

Writing in his exclusive opinion column for the Liverpool Echo, Aldridge praised the 15-minute cameo from Nunez against Tottenham Hotspur. He wrote:

“I thought Nunez was lively in his 15-minute cameo off the bench and almost had an assist for Mohamed Salah before the offside flag was raised but that is the Uruguay striker in a nutshell and for all the stick he might be getting from idiots online at the moment, the fans at Anfield have always backed him. You only need to be there on match-day to hear how much they support their No.9. His name is sung as much as anyone else’s when he starts a game.”

He attacked the social media “fans”, calling many of them fake and horrible that all they offer is toxicity. The Liverpool legend added:

“But modern football means there are always people looking to tear you down and you need to understand that there is also always pressure when you play for a club like Liverpool, especially when you are a big-money striker like Darwin is. This is where he would benefit from having the right people around him and in his camp to give the right feedback and keep him on an even keel. Most of those nobodies online won’t even be Liverpool fans, it will be people pretending to be so they can stick the boot in and feel good about themselves.”

While Nunez deserves constructive criticism for his lack of composure in front of goal, he has also delivered numerous times. The Uruguay international has made 52 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions, scoring 18 goals and providing 13 assists.

Nunez has single-handedly won several points for the Reds, particularly with his finishing against Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest. The 24-year-old has faced constant criticism from the Media over his price tag while social media fans failed to defend him.

More Liverpool News

There is an obvious case of wolves in sheep’s clothing as many big Liverpool fan accounts are self-serving unknowns. There is a high likelihood that they are not Liverpool fans but they have the platform to influence new fans.

Rest assured, the majority of the fanbase still follows “the Liverpool way”, succeeding and failing together with the players and staff. We hope that Nunez can separate the social media “idiots” as Aldridge pointed out, from the actual fans who have supported him thoroughly.
