It is understood by the Daily Mirror, that Brighton have pipped Celtic to the signing of Gomez. The Englishman is recovering after an extended spell on the side-lines, through injury. The Seagulls, who are about to embark on their first season in the Premier League, are expected to complete the loan signing of Gomez in the coming days.

In the process, they have beaten Scottish champions Celtic to the player’s signature. Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers brought Gomez to Liverpool from Charlton Athletic, and is a fan of his. However, the allure of Premier League football, may have swung it in Brighton’s favour.

Gomez will see the move to the coast, as an opportunity to kick-start his career again, having suffered a serious knee injury. The set-back came as a huge blow after he had made a promising start to his time at Anfield, after moving for £3.5m. On return, Gomez made just 3 FA Cup appearances for the Reds. His last outing coming in January.

Chris Hughton and Brighton, have offered him a chance to gain more first-team football at the highest level. Gomez will be the club’s fourth signing of the summer. They have already brought in goalkeeper Maty Ryan, defender Josh Kerr and midfielder Pascal Goss. Gomez will be the most high- profile signing out of that quartet.

Brighton will be looking to make further additions to their squad before the new season starts, as they look to survive in the big league.

For Liverpool, this deal offers one of their many talented youngsters the chance to enjoy top flight football. Gomez, undoubtedly, still has a future at the club but will have to bide his time after the injury that kept him out for over a year.

Gomez won the U17 European Championships with England, playing a key role. The following season, he managed to gain first-team opportunities at Charlton. He impressed, before attracting the attention of many top clubs. Liverpool won the race.

He is strong, composed on the ball and is a good leader. The defender can basically play anywhere across the back-line. His versatility is one of his best assets.

Good luck with your move Joe! Come back stronger.
