Not Hernandez – Liverpool Linked With Another Mexican, With West Ham United In The Race

Raul Jimenez

Liverpool are looking to add more options in their attack in the summer and have been linked with a big-money move for Benfica star Raul Jimenez.

Sport Witness carries a report from the Portuguese outlet Record which claims that West Ham and Liverpool are tracking the 26-year-old Mexican striker. The report also claims that an unnamed Premier League side has made a bid of €45million for the striker.

Jimenez was linked with a move to England a couple of years ago but chose to join Benfica instead. He has been a consistent goal scorer but his 23 goals from 77 games for the Portuguese side would not scare any defence in the Premier League.

The 26-year-old only scored 11 times in 32 games last season and it is a bit of a concern as to why we are linked with a striker that isn’t the youngest or the most prolific in the attack.

While West Ham don’t really have the purse strings to launch a crazy bid for the player, it would be similarly weird if we did bid €45million for Jimenez. The 26-year-old might be looking for a way out of the Portuguese club and these rumours could be spread by the player’s representatives.

We all know that the Premier League is the most watched league in the world and the money available to all the clubs is significantly higher than of those in the other leagues. Liverpool don’t really need to sign someone who might be sitting on the bench more often than not as we need a player who would score goals for fun.

Daniel Sturridge is one player who might be on his way out and in our formation, we need a striker that is going to put in a lot of effort and pressurise the opposition defence. Jimenez is certainly experienced as he has played 54 times for his national side but that should not be a reason for us to move for him and sign him.

We cannot waste time by going after targets that don’t fit Jurgen Klopp’s philosophy and should instead look to bring in players that will improve the team.
