26-year Old Liverpool Target Responds To Rumours – Could Be Open To A Premier League Switch

The Raul Jimenez transfer saga keeps on taking a new turn every day. While the Mexican has been linked with a move to Liverpool and West Ham United in recent weeks, the player has now come out and stated that he does not mind a move to the Premier League.

The striker scored 11 times for Benfica last season, despite having a number of injuries that affected his playing time for the Portuguese club.

For some reason we have been linked with a move for the 26-year-old and the Mexican has opened up about his future.

The Express carried quotes from ESPN as the Mexican stated:

“The Premier League is a great championship, but you have to wait. I don’t close any doors and we’ll see what happens. I’m still at Benfica. Now, I’m going to have a good vacation then go back to work with everything.”

The Mexican also added that he did not know about the interest from the Premier League sides and was only focusing on the Confederations Cup where Mexico finished fourth. He said

:

“I saw the news came out but I don’t know anything. I was concentrating on the national team. I have a date to return to Benfica, to join the pre-season games and I’m in the club’s hands.”

This does seem to be a normal statement from a player who is keeping all his options open. Jimenez would not want to upset the side for whom he plays, if a deal does not occur in the summer. Benfica are still one of the top sides in the world and Jimenez could be looking to make a big money move sooner or later.

The striker was expected to join West Ham a few years ago but that deal didn’t take place and he ended up at Atletico Madrid. Things did not work out for him there too and he signed for the Portuguese giants.

This link still feels a little half-baked as Jurgen Klopp would not want to sign a player that will not improve the squad. Jimenez isn’t the worst striker in the world but we do have Daniel Sturridge, Divock Origi and the returning Danny Ings to cover for Roberto Firmino.

What we need are a couple of defenders and maybe another midfielder. Those are the signings that would please most of us and then we could think of bringing another striker at the club.
