‘I think Giroud could play for Liverpool’ – Former Reds Player Suggests Klopp To Sign The Arsenal Man

Former Liverpool player Dean Saunders, told TalkSPORT that his old club should sign Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud.

The French forward has been tipped to leave the Emirates Stadium this summer, with West Ham United and Everton the most heavily linked clubs.

“I think Giroud could play for Liverpool,” he told the radio station. Liverpool’s current front three float around, they just play anywhere, but against the lesser teams who they struggle to break down, I just think sometimes you could do with a player in the box like Giroud.

“You need a striker that, when you get stuck, you just toss it in there and he turns it into a goal – Giroud does that. He’s a top, top player and I think he’d be a good signing for Liverpool.”

Jurgen Klopp generally tends to prefer more mobile, pacey strikers. The German likes a high-tempo style of play, with many quick counter-attacks. Giroud may not be his type of signing. The Arsenal man has a high work rate though, which is a quality of a Klopp-type striker.

The Reds have pursued many attacking players this transfer window. We have targeted Kylian Mbappe of Monaco, although it looks likely that their attempts will be in vein.

Giroud looks like a more realistic signing for Liverpool. The former Montpellier player, is looking to leave Arsenal this summer. The signing of France teammate Alexander Lacazette from Olympique Lyon, will hasten his exit from the North-London club.

Everton and West Ham may be able to offer Giroud more game time. Liverpool can potentially offer Champions League football next season, but competition for places is tougher at Anfield. Sadio Mane, Danny Ings, Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi – are already at the club. Chelsea youngster Dominic Solanke has also joined this summer, to bolster their forward options.

It is understood that Giroud would prefer to remain in the Premier League. Liverpool have had mixed fortunes in the transfer market so far this summer. Our move for Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk collapsed, after it was claimed that we approached the Dutch international illegally. We were forced to issue an apology and drop the interest.

However, we did succeed in the pursuit of Roma winger Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian signed for a club record £36.9million

.

Giroud’s choice of next club could hinge between both Merseyside clubs. Everton, who lost star man Romelu Lukaku this week, are in the market for a new striker. They have signed Wayne Rooney, but Ronald Koeman would like to add more goals to his squad.

Liverpool or Everton? Giroud would surely make a wise choice I reckon.
