Not Robertson – Liverpool Linked With Surprise Left-back From Championship Who Just Failed In His Medical

Liverpool have been linked with various left-backs in the summer, with the club keen on adding a new face in that position and the latest news from The People (h/t Daily Star) is claiming that the Reds are considering a move for Aston Villa left-back Jordan Amavi.

The 23-year-old is a regular in the transfer window this season having already seen a proposed move to La Liga side Sevilla fall through (Birmingham Mail

). It was reported that the Spanish club doctors indicated that he could possibly suffer a repeat of the anterior cruciate ligament injury – something which troubled him in 2015.

This makes it interesting as to why Liverpool would be interested. The reports say that Jurgen Klopp is interested in an initial loan deal that would help him monitor the knee issue and then try to sign him permanently.

This rumour comes at a very interesting time as far as Liverpool is concerned. It is an open secret that we are looking to sign a quality left-back to solve our perennial problem. Hull City’s Andrew Robertson is reported to be close to joining

us in a £8million deal.

Robertson has been consistently linked with a transfer ever since the window began and there are enough indications to believe that the move would go through. James Milner was the preferred choice last season for Klopp. Although the England international did a commendable job, he was almost always the weakest link in important games.

Plugging that hole with Robertson will allow Klopp to worry a little less about the back four. Where will Amavi fit in then? Alberto Moreno is almost certain to leave the club in search of first-team football and the club may not be reluctant to let him go either. This leaves a position vacant for Klopp, who may see Amavi as a backup for Scotland international, Andrew Robertson.

With the Reds back in Champions League, there are going to be a lot of games over the course of the season. Klopp would need a strong squad to be able to rotate his side – something which we lacked last year.
