Liverpool Midfielder Leaves Training Camp And Heads Back Home Ahead Of Proposed Move

Kevin Stewart has reportedly flown home from Liverpool’s Honk Kong Tour as the Merseyside club has agreed to sell the midfielder to Hull City. The Liverpool Echo

claims that the 23-year-old would be joining the Tigers for a fee of £8million.

The Englishman still has to discuss and agree on personal terms, and even complete a medical before the deal can be completed. But it does seem likely that he will end up as a Tiger pretty soon.

Stewart joined us three years back, on a free transfer from Tottenham. Even though great things were expected from him, he just couldn’t seal a place in the first-team under Jurgen Klopp.

The 23-year-old only penned a new contract with us in November and it is a bit of a surprise to see him leave, given that he was one of the players with a lot of potential. The midfielder made his debut for us in an FA Cup game against Exeter City in January 2016 and made 20 senior appearances for the Reds.

There was a lot of interest in the Englishman according to the Echo

, as Aston Villa, Newcastle United, West Brom, Swansea City and even Brighton wanted to sign him up last January. But Klopp decided to keep him in the team.

A Great Switch To Bring In Robertson

The lack of first-team opportunities seems to have been a big problem in Stewart’s development and being 23, he needed to move out and gain some experience.

This deal however, seems to have been done to ensure Robertson joins us from the Tigers. The Scot had left Hull’s training camp in Portugal to finalise a deal with us, and the fee for the 23-year-old defender is more or less the same as that of Stewart’s.

What we essentially have done is replace a bit-part player who would not get a lot of time next season, with a left-back who was one of the best players for his team last season, and one who will solve our defensive issues. Robertson might have been relegated with Hull last season but he is capable of doing a decent job for us and should be our first-team left-back or at least provide James Milner with cover and competition.

The deal certainly looks great now and we seem to be the ones to have got the better end of it.
